Included in the melting pot that is the Patchogue restaurant scene, there is a Peruvian spot called The Chicken Place. The restaurant is little, so you will have to keep your eyes open as you travel down Main Street, but once you find it you will definitely be able to find a seat. This spot seems to still be a secret since it opened in the spring of 2010, but you may want to keep it all to yourself when you taste some of the menu options.
The menu is extensive and includes choices that you may have never heard of, but you won’t be disappointed. If you choose to begin with a soup, be prepared because the bowl may be the size of your head. The seafood soup has octopus, shrimp, clams, mussels, etc. with a thin salty broth that warms your insides with flavor. But, if you choose to start with a salad, their creamy dressing is reminiscent of a Creamy Italian but with a little extra tang that may lead to you asking for another bowl.
The star of their menu is their seasoned rotisserie chicken that is enveloped in a crispy skin that peels back to present the moist meat inside. It is sold in quarter, half and whole sizes so you can choose how much chicken you want. On the side, you can get perfectly seasoned papas fritas (French fries) that don’t even need a dab of ketchup. They have just the right amount of crunch and a fleshy center.
When you are looking for something different as you drive through downtown Patchogue and pizza and heroes are not going to cut it, stop into The Chicken Place and excite your palate.
